Is Office 2007 Amazing or What?

Microsoft’s Office 2007 is still new for some though Microsoft is already planning on the big launch of their 2010 version. First, we have to at least have better appreciation of 2007 new features.
Have you somehow wonder what’s with the added x in the file extension for most of the Office 2007 software? For example, Microsoft Word documents when saved are now “.docx”. PowerPoint is “.pptx”. Excel is “.xlsx”. So what’s with this x?
The way to know is to have the same document saved in both versions then compare the file size. Just be sure that both have the same and literally the same content to really tell the difference. Which one is smaller in size? What makes it smaller?
The x means XML. It is a new technology in the background of Office 2007. However, the XML is not new in the arena. Implementation wise, Microsoft is trying to maximize its use to all of their platforms and that includes Office 2007. I bet all new versions will maintain the same.
As always, look for new features and understand well why a new version in the first place?
