Understanding Isn't the Same As Action
by James Ellis on July 13th, 2010How many books or web sites or white papers or articles or posts have you read in the hope of learning how to get a job? A dozen? A hundred? More?
Are you waiting for that one idea, fact, question or info-tidbit to change it around?
Stop waiting. It's time to just doing.
Go make a resume and a cover letter and a blog post and a business card and anything else, and start pushing them out NOW.
Getting a job isn't about a perfect resume, it's about always enhancing everything you are doing. Today, don't spend your time thinking about doing that perfect thing, just do something (anything) that moves you ahead.
If you are waiting for perfection, you are paralyzed. Paralisis by analysis. The only way you learn (and get better at what you are trying to do) is to do and to see what works and do it even better the next time.
So stop waiting for perfection. Stop "learning" by reading. Stop not doing anything and do something right now. It's how you get better and how you get the job you want.
