Have You Accepted Defeat in Your Job Search?

by Linda M Foy on November 17th, 2010

Job searching is a FULL TIME JOB.  Embracing this fact alone can help you diminish the negative emotions that can accompany not finding the right job that brings fulfillment.  When nearing frustration or a crushed ego, don’t open the door for depression to step in.  Throw it a curveball! “Depression loses its power when fresh vision pierces the darkness” (Peter Sinclair).

Take a break to reassess how you approach your job search.  How is your mental and physical health? Maybe you could improve your performance and attitude.  Eat right, exercise and stay encouraged.  What you put in will determine what you put out. You can’t perform well if you don’t feel well.  Brief walks refresh you and help clear your head to energize and increase your enthusiasm.  A POSITIVE ATTITUDE is REQUIRED to SUCCEED!

When you feel you are alone in your quest, encourage yourself.  Know your skills and capabilities and keep your job goal clear.  Recognize you CAN and WILL excel when given the opportunity.  After all, if you can’t convince yourself that you’re mentally and physically fit to do a great job then how can you convince your potential employer?

Reflect and ask yourself some key questions. How hard do I work on my job plan? How persistent am I?  Remember, this IS a full time job. Maybe you need to make adjustments as you go along, when necessary, to perfect your plan.  But don’t stop working on your search.  Know it will work. You’ll also have better control over your time, workload and stress if you work hard on your research and execute what you’ve planned.

The job search challenge is also an indicator of your conviction, endurance and perseverance.  Don’t give up.  If you do, how do you think you will come across to your potential employer?  “Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did” (Newt Gingrich).

Can you visualize your goal?  Make sure you keep it in mind.  It’s YOUR future.  If you don’t fight to get there, who will?

Everyone has the potential to succeed.  Just believe in yourself, plan, execute with vitality and embrace the champion in you!
